GUEST: Dr. Janice Crouse Ph.D., Senior Fellow at the Beverly LaHaye Institute, the think tank for Concerned Women for America, is a recognized authority on national and international cultural, children’s and women’s concerns, including sex trafficking, the United Nations, and U.S. domestic issues. Even though the idea of marriage may have lost ground, the value of marriage remains strong.

TOPIC: Bill HF 807 Stripping Iowa taxpayers of federal deductibility.

Removing Federal Deductibility Proposal Revived

Politicians like to aim their protections on various classes of people, often taking shots at the ‘rich.’ However, losing this deduction will hurt younger Iowans who are saving for home, single parents and others who rent. It will hurt older Iowans as many have worked hard and paid off their homes in preparation for retirement. Losing their federal deduction could mean losing their largest deduction since their home is paid off.

While removing the federal deductibility creates a $600 million tax increase on Iowans, it will in no way ensure that current Democratic leadership in Iowa will use it to curb the deficit. Like the federal stimulus money, it may be used to further their excessive spending. ITR and others say it is possible to fix the budget without raising or creating new taxes.

Find your legislator and tell them to just say “No” to HF 807 and taking away the ability for Iowans to deduct from the state what they paid to the federal government in taxes.

This is not a tax on your refund or tax return from the federal government. This is a tax on the amount you PAID the government. It will still be charged to you even if you get no return. Iowans would be taxed on money they never received because the federal government had already taken it from their paychecks.

It’s a tax on a tax – or double taxation.

Taxed once by federal, taxed twice by state.
