Topic: Bond Referendum - Polk County Courthouse - Tuesday - April 29, 2008
Guest: George Davey with Citizens for Reasonable Justice discussed the many concerns with the new referendum facing voters in Polk County, Iowa on Tuesday, April 29, 2008.
According to the website www.polkjustice.com, not only is the timing of this bond issue extremely poor as many economic analyst feel a recession is fast approaching, but the proposal is extravagant and unmerited with a new courthouse nearly the size of the courthouse in Las Vegas, NV which handles 20 times more cases, has 10 times the population of Polk county and millions more in tourist.
One has to ask, why voters would opt to pay more taxes when Iowans already pay nearly 40% of their income to government for the purpose of funding just such expenditures.
